Forum Rules - Read before posting!
« Thread Started on Oct 14, 2007, 5:43pm »

I figured I should start this topic seeing as we've had a few issues with people lacking common sense about posting lately. Feel free to post your own, and I'll add the good/reasonable ones to this list.

Rules:
- If you start a thread, you must provide some content to get things going. Do not post just one sentence.
- The title of your topic, or a poll don't count as content in an opening post, you actually have to write or show something.
- Double posting is alright provided you are giving new information and a sufficient amount of time has passed. If you Just posted and forgot something use the MODIFY button.
- If you are going to double post, there has to be a good reason for it, forgetting to mention something in your last post isn't a good reason. If you forgot something, just edit you post.
- Don't bother posting in a topic if all you're going to do is say "lol","rofl", or some other bit of internet lingo.
- Read the whole thread before posting
- Don't ask for music from the show, you can ask what the song is called, but don't ask anybody to send you the song, it won't happen.
- No trying to anger any of the admins.
- Please don't ask when the next Episode is coming out. We ususally don't know. If we are reasonably sure we know when it'll be done we'll let you know. Probably best not to ask for a release date on most things.
- Use your common sense for the most part. If you begin to post something and realize it will do nothing but annoy people DON'T!
- Please try and keep conversations somewhat on topic, especially when the conversation starts to cover something from another thread.
- Don't dig up an old thread unless you're going to post something meaningful in it.
- Don't bring your prejudice here, any bashing of minorities is not allowed.
- Please keep signatures at a reasonable size, anything over 300 pixels tall is probably too tall.
- Most arguments don't need to happen but if you REALLY feel like they do post it in OFF TOPIC or better yet keep it to private messages.
- Once you've been warned, you are not allowed to change your display name anymore. This is to keep things from being a pain in the ass for admins.
- Make posts with some sort of discussion or contribution instead of generic comments ("that would be kool"), it's pretty much the same thing as posting nothing but "lol" otherwise.

On Posting Files: Talking about downloading files illegally, or offering download links is frowned upon here and against the rules because of the obvious legal problems that could happen. But offering freeware files/games, abandonware games, knock off bootleg games, and all of that sort are alright and fair game to post.

Banning
(Note: This is how I (Jeremy) will handle banning, Joel and Phelan may choose to do things differently)

You get three warnings to start with, these may or may not be posted in the thread you broke a rule in, but you will get a PM notifying you.

After three warnings you're banned for a week.

When you return, you have three more warnings, after which you will be banned permanently.

The Grammar Ban
This is for people who get so lazy at writing that their posts are incomprehensible. This isn't for people who don't normally speak English and are trying their damndest to communicate, if there is a misunderstanding this ban will not apply to you.

What counts as lazy? Excessive use of numbers to replace letters and words (Eg. b4, 2), people who use leet (733+) speak, and anyone who is just generally impossible to understand.

So, what happens? I will ban you until you take an online basic English grammar test and e-mail me with a passing grade, once you do, the ban is lifted and it's not counted against you like the normal week long bans do.

Here is a link to the test:
http://www.quia.com/quiz/646918.html

Why are you being a prick about this? You must be new to these forums if you think I've ever needed a good reason to be a prick.
------------------------------------------
In extreme circumstances, I may forgo the warnings and ban the offending member outright.

The thing about flaming someone or being rude to them is that some people deserve it, and it occasionally can be amusing if done right and nobody takes it too seriously, maybe a rule like: Don't take insulting people too far?

-"Vote one and move on" has been a staple on Something Awful.
Here I guess "Click smite and move on" would work just as well.
-"Read the whole thread before posting" would be a great one to prevent people from posting the same lame catchphrases and responses every new page.
I swear if one more person writes "Let me check the pilot" in the favorite quote section I'll scream.

For the most part people around here are pretty good about these things so I'll post more ideas as I see them required.

"Read the whole thread before posting" is a really good ONE.

I don't think I'll add the smiting one because we don't really have a problem with people thread shitting like over at Something Awful, if a thread is getting complained about here, it usually deserves it, maybe some day when there are a lot more people posting and it becomes a problem though... :)

I agree with you guys! Especially with the "read the whole thread" and double posting. You could stick this topic that it stays up in this board (if you know what I mean). And also what AbsoluteZero said: "Click smite and move on". Well appearentlly someone has lowered Jeremys Karma from 46 down to 30? Who could it be? ;) I've got two suspects: Caged and/or Nobodyknows :D.

Well I don't really care about the exalt/smite thing, I don't really pay attention to my points at all, so feel free to smite the hell out of me if you want.

Anyway, I added a rule to the list requested by Phelan:
- Don't ask for music from the show, you can ask what the song is called, but don't ask anybody to send you the song, it won't happen.

Looks like I've got a new forum goal. ;D
Since apparently you can change them at will let's see how low I can get your Karma in one month.
The race is on! Join me won't you?

Haha, I actually didn't do anything to my Karma, either I'm really popular ,or Phelan or Joel changed it.

I have two suggestions:

1. I think we all know what not to post here so I think it starts with "P" and ends with "N" which is a four-letter word. It can harm the younger members of this board.

2. No spamming/advertising which everybody is absolutely annoyed of receiving in their e-mail.

Those will get added if they become a problem, but I doubt they will any time in the near future.
